I think it's called a clutch lever pin. Basically its a way the bike can tell if the bike is in gear and the clutch is not engaged the bike will not start. If the pin is damaged (like mine), then the bike does not register that the clutch is engaged and will not start. I just start mine in neutral now with no problem.

Why not just start it in neutral, like you're supposed to do?

Be for you go crazy checking all the wires. Look at the clutch lever switch. I also put the 575's on my Ultra limited had same problem turned out to be the switch. You can see it on the left behind the clutch lever just pull the lever and see if it gets pushed in or you can push it in with a flat blade screw driver. I had to put a small shim behind the switch in the switch housing. I used a small piece of a nylon zip tie

Thanks for all the replies. I'll check in the AM about the switch.

I do normally start it in neutral, however I still pull the clutch in to start, regardless of whether I'm in neutral or not. It's a habit I got into driving manual cars I suppose. Doesn't hurt anything. But when I park on a hill, I leave the bike in gear, and when I get back to it and go to start it, I want it to start, rather than push a button and nothing happen. haha

I agree it's good to have this working especially if you stall in traffic (at a light) and want to get going fast.

I recently had the same issue...turns out that the new grips that I put on were thicker than stock and that stopped the lever from fully engaging the switch...he put small pad on the lever and since then, it works perfectly.

Well, I fixed the problem.

Anyone else think that squeezing the wire pack through the clamps is... well, damn near impossible?! There's literally no room for it. I had it in between the bars and the clutch side of the clamp, which moved it further from the button to where it was just missing it. But it's stupid that there isn't at least some sort of cut-out for the wires in the clamps.

usually the bars are dimpled to allow the wire harness to pass through
