Default 2ohm to 4 ohm speakers in my batwing

I have a set of speakers that i had in my old car that i was thinking of putting in the fairing. They are sony 6.5" 4 ohm speakers. I was thinking of getting a adapter ring to go from the stock speaker to the 6.5. My question is about the 2 ohm to 4 ohm speaker. Dont know enought about the differeence between 2 ohm and 4 ohm. Could i use them, whats the difference? Will they be better/worse?

I put in a set of 4 ohms with my 2 ohm stereo, I noticed a loss in volume. I went back to 2 ohm speakers.

Figured this may be the issue. I just thought this would be a cheap upgrade since i have the speakers laying around. I just need a 50 dollar set of adapter rings. Oh well

Going from 2 ohm speakers to 4 ohm wont hurt anything, the loss of volume is due to the 4 ohm consuming less power. Where you can screw things up is if you put 2 ohm speakers in a 4 ohm system.

The loss of power is due to higher ohms. Ohms are resistance therefore a noticable drop in volume.

So are we saying the 4ohm speakers wont be as loud as the stock speakers? Right now i only turn it up about 1/2 way before it starts sounding like crap.

The speakers and the stereo are both reasons why after half volume it sounds terrible, an amp and some decent speakers will make a notable difference, even with the same head unit.

The stock head unit outputs maybe 20w/ch. with the stock 2Ω speakers, which is obviously marginal in sound quality, probably 15w or less if you mount 4Ω speakers. Even though the replacement speakers are larger, I would doubt if they would sound better. You could try it, but you'll need to buy some adapters, and these should be easy to find (e.g., Ebay).

As Dbell and Mark5 said, I would find a mini amp and use it with these 6½" speakers. That would be a worthwhile arrangement.

Default need an amp

ihad hog tunes no amp as sson as i get over half on volume scale it starts to distort
Put a set of 4 ohm speakers i had in my old 2003 which was a six ohm sytem, they didnt distort on that bike but with the two ohm harmon crapdon system these speakers start to distort just like any other speaker ive tried as soon as you get half way up on volume
The system needs an amp to get around the crap output of the harmon crapdon radio
