I guess so, I use Brad Penn 75/90 full syn in my tranny, they say the the gear oil holds up better to the shear from the gears in transmissions.

The Rotella is it the SYN in the blue bottle? I have used it in my non-HD bike for years. I believe it is advertised as a truck oil. It was fine in my Magna.

When I got the Ultra the service manager gave me a coupon for a SYN oil change.

I had my inner primary swapped out to a chrome one just before I did my Fuel Moto 107 build last December. I had the H-D dealer use Syn 3 in the primary... I ended up deciding to do a full build on my motor (crank weld, timken bearing, etc) therefore FM had to take the primary off and they told me they would've drained it and filled with NON Synthetic anyway... as they have 8 out of 10 bikes start to slip with Syn 3 in the primary hole.

Synthetic Oil Not Recommended by Factory in Primary Went to the dealership for Syn 3 oil for my oil change and he told me the factory is not recommending the use of syntheticoil in the primary.
What you are told at your local dealership can vary from what is recommended by the "factory".

If the factory no longer recomends it, then the CVO's should no longer be coming standard with SYN3 in all three holes.

Should be easy to check when the 2013 CVO's arrive at the dealership.

I usually blend 50/50 Royal Purple 20/50 Max cycle and Amsoil AHR 60Wt...for the primary... the RP is a JASO MB, The AHR is JASO MA..... never had a problem with clutch slippage on either bike riding two up and getting with it pretty good. (both had the 103 w/255 set up)... of course I have the SE clutch spring in there also... which the guys at the dealer suggested I do if I planned on "riding it" instead of easing around. They hinted that the stock spring was barely strong enough for a stock bike.

I've used rotella t conventional in the primary since I got my Harley and used it in every wet clutch bike I've ever had, with no problems ever. And it's cheap. Meets the jaso spec so if it ain't broke

I just had my 10,000 mile service done and the dealer used the syn3 in ALL THREE HOLES. The bike runs quieter and the trans seems "grippier" than it has ever been. I'm sold on the syn3 at the moment!

Last time I looked at a regular bottle of harley primary oil it was labled as a synthetic blend.
When it comes to harleys and oil the boogie man is lurking around every corner
