Default Metzler ME880 Rear Tire Failure

Take a look at the pic. Rear tire coming apart with about 6,000 miles on it. Made in Brazil. Sent back to Metzler for analysis. Sure glad I caught it on a preride inspection. Could have been bad. Those patches missing go all the way around the tire, just right of the centerline. Should get at least a 50% credit.

Holy sh*t!! That could have been catastrophic!!! I've got 880's. I keep an eye on them big time, including the pressures. My rear started to "cup" on the outer tread from low pressure riding 2 up. I started going by their recommended pressure, not HD's and havent had a problem....so far. I think Ive got about 6k on mine right now too. Hmmmmm. I'm glad to hear you caught it before things got ugly!!

Is sad, the price of things keeps going up and quality keeps going down, we live in a society of greed.

Glad you spotted that on your PRI. It could have been bad. Maybe a notification to the NHTSA is due as well.

American made means something. Dunlop has served me well. I think I'll stick with them.

This is key! The HD numbers are for the stock factory supplied tires, once you replace any tire go with the pressure on the sidewall of the tire. Even an oem tire may come with a different number if during the manufacturing process the tire mfg can change the spec on the air pressure.
When I went from dunlops to Metzlers there was a 10 lb pressure difference.
