Default 103 for my 09 S/G...looking for input

Hey all, I have a 09 SG with SE heavy breather/fuel mgmt/slip ons. I hear alot of people talking about the 103. Can someone explain what the dealer will do to my engine if I have the stage II 103 installed? And will it affect the reliability of my bike? My local dealer (Canadian) quoted me $2400 for the kit (including install and tax). Is it worth it?

Thx,
Chris

the 103 is a bored out 96"

expect about 8 more ft lbs of torque

that means in practical terms that you can shift into 6th a little earlier- the motor won't protest. a little more power moving off the line in 1st gear, a little quicker shifting into 2nd.

assume the "stage 2" is cams - results depend on cams chosen.

so get details on that.

the 103" should also have automatic compression releases installed otherwise the starter will fail repeatedly- are those included in the quote ?

and any needed download/tuner/ fuel mgmt changes ?

other than the ACR/starter issue, reliability should be good. the 103" is now the standard displacement.

For my money, i wouldn;t- but that is me. Many riders would dive in ( I see $2400 as 10% closer to a new Harley...or 15% the way I shop...and then I saw an 87 R80RT for $2500 in the paper today...)

I had a stage 2 in my 2007. (255 cams)

I miss it, and will hopefully be putting it on my 09 this winter. (which has pipes and an intake, and was dyno tuned, so its doing better than stock)

Thought about going 107, but would be too concerned about all the other things in the motor that may/may not hold up in the long run. Honestly, Im mostly good with just the 96 as it is. Going to the 103 with 255s just gives it some more grunt, which is nice when heading up a canyon 2-up and loaded. Thats when I really feel the difference compared to what my 07 pulled like. I've gone up the same canyons with the wife on the back, and where Im downshifting on the 96", my 103 would accelerate easily up the same canyon. Less shifting to keep the bike in a gear its comfortable with under load, and better passing. It wasn't appreciably FASTER, but it pulled harder. Lost about 15-20 miles range on a full tank as far as fuel consumption.

As I recall, my 07 was putting out 103 ft lbs on the dyno. I believe my intaked/piped/dyno tuned 09 is around 89-ish. (long since lost the dyno sheets)

The person whom I sold the 07 to reports she's still going strong with 45,000 miles. it now lives in Phoenix, where the heat can be pretty extreme.

For what its worth, that price you quoted is about dead on what I paid to do the 2007.

103 jugs
255 cams
SE Race tuner (now called SuperTuner)
labor
dyno time.

I have the 103" stage II kit and if Inhad to do it again, I would either do just cams, or a 107".

That being said, I think you will love it, I do. My previous statement is solely about the best bang for the buck. I ended up with 85HP and 105TQ.

You will be happier (and save money) if you just put in better cams and keep it a 96.

Agree with TFB!!
Put a good set of cams in it and then see how you feel.
They might be enough if you're already @ a stage 1?

I would go with a 107 Drago kit with cams.
