If you plan on keeping her for a lot of years. Engine and primary every 3,000 miles. Transmission, every 3,000 then after about 9000 miles switch to a 10,000 miles interval.
If you trade for a new bike every couple of years follow the manufactures suggested intervals. I've been riding Harley's since 1975 and I'm only on my forth one with no major mechanical problems in all those miles.

A synthetic will go a 5000 mile minimum. It's actually proven that used oil protect better than new oil because the oil's anti-wear agents are activated in the used oil. So changing your oil too often will accelerate wear.
I know,it sounds wrong however I spend as much time at bob is the oil guy as I do here reading threads.
That's why,if you notice, auto manufacturers are suggesting longer drain intervals.
The primary doesn't need changing as often as oil because its only contaminant is clutch material, whereas the engine oil turns to acid as the sulfur in the fuel burns and
blow-by(inevitable) is absorbed in the oil.
The tranny fluid is only susceptible to shear. So over time the fluid thins. Which is why I use shockproof heavy.
I think it's a 70w-140. So being 140 at operating temp it takes longer to shear into a thinner
fluid,whereas a 70w-90 will shear faster.
I know I may be writing unheard of ideas however Im not too old to learn. And the tribologists(oil engineers)scientists and phd's over there at bob is the oil guy know what they are talking about.

I chose 75w80 Motul gear oil to gently 'fine-adjust' my new gearbox. I can distinguish a slight increase of transmission noise after 6 hours of riding, especially when using engine braking. Once cold (overnight), the transmission becomes quiet again. I will soon change to a 75w140 better adapted for long rides.

You can change it like service manual or the overkill that people here say. I have learned that as long as you do not let it go dry you will not be able to tell the difference in 100K. If it's under warranty do what is required. After that if you do it, change the oils once a year so you can honestly say you maintained it. (primary and transmission is just two quarts..so no big deal) Then do not worry about it. If I were paying someone, after the warranty I would just make sure they were correct level.
