Default Bolting the Wear Plate to Saddlebag Lid?

The double sided tape that attaches the wear plate to the saddlebag lid is failing as shown in the pict. I have always thought it odd that the plate has holes in it but it is not bolted to the saddlebag lid. (The lid is not drilled — the residual tape makes it look like it.)

It looks like there will be clearance issues with the bolt — it looks like it will at least contact the rubber gasket.

Has anyone drilled and bolted theirs?

(For clarification the wear plate is service part number 90962-93 of the Saddlebag hardware kit 90925-08.)

I used clear silicone caulk in the past. Heck my neighbor has used it on his for about 3 years now and it still hasn't gone no where. Smear some on the underside and you are good to go.

I'd just go to one of the big Auto Part Stores (NAPA, Auto Zone, Advance Auto) and get the "industrial" molding tape (double sided) they us for re-attaching car molding. Use your plate as a template & cut a new piece...stick back on...good to go.
