Is dealer shooting straight?
About to pull the trigger on a set of 255 cams. Dealer says I'll need new tappets as well (an extra $120).
'11 Ultra Limited, 103 with 27K mi, AN big sucker, SE power tuner, V&H power duels, V&H rounds. Currently dyno'd at 80hp/99torque.
Hoping the 255's will give me close to 100hp/110torque.
Dealer says it'll come very close.
Will this mod give me the numbers I'm looking for?
Do I really need new tappets with only 27k on the bike?

Lifters
I did my own work and replaced with 255's, adjustable push rods and tubes, new cam bearings, new lifters,(local parts store and I purchased lifters from a newer small block chevy that uses the same lifters our TC use. Only $12 each. 10000 miles and no issues.)
Definately replace lifters with mileage you are at.

Gaterman 1023's. the new HD "C" lifters are Mexican crap. You could probable get away with the same lifters though. You don't need adjustable pushrods either unless they're trying to save time and cut yours out. Do the work yourself and save a ton.

You won't reach the 100hp mark with 255 cams. This is a low end torque cam. You'll likely get a 5-7hp boost out of them.
As for lifters, there are a lot of different opinions on this. I guess what people are worried about is that the lifters will, for lack of a better term, "mate" to the stock cams after so long and then cause uneven wear on the replacement cams. Hard for me to wrap my head around the rationale of no need to change at 15k but definitely change at 25k+. Is there really that much wear going on between that period? I doubt it.
Also, don't waste your money on adjustable push rods. Tanking the tank off is the easiest part of the job, and you will be able to reuse your stock pushrods, eliminating the aggravation of having to adjust new ones and you'll have extra peace of mind because that's one less nut that can work its way loose on your bike.
