Default Heated grips

Sorry for the stupid question but here it goes. I just bought a 2009 Ultra Classic a few weeks ago. It has heated grips. When the bike is on and engine is running I have turned the grips all the way to the highest setting but no heat. Do you also have to have the accessory switch(accessory rocker switch) flipped/turned on for the grips to heat even though the bike engine is running? Thanks

It depends - they could be wired through the accessory circuit, but not usually. Flip the switch and see what happens...

Not saying I know anything for sure, but based on discussions previously here it sounds like you may have grips that have ceased to work. I'd try the access switch first but if that doesn't work it may be that the grips went south on you. I want to add them to my Street Glide, but I don't want to go thru the hassle adding to have them go south within a year of install. Good luck!

I only have to turn the left side grip to the desired setting to get the heat to come on. I believe the accessory switch is there for any future add ons.

Yes I tried the accessory switch but no joy. Turned it all the way to 6. I guess my grips are **** like everyone else who has posted about the heated grips. Oh well, I still have the other $6000 of add-ons which came with the bike and they all are in good shape. Thanks for helping.

if they were owner added, you should track down how they are wired in, maybe the install is crap.

I did find the installation pdf on the web and it says the grips will only work while the engine is running and will have peak warming when running at cruising speed. I have checked these only in the garage so I guess I will have to wait until I get it on the road at cruising speed and then see if they work. Still don't know how to find the fuse though.

In 09 the stock heated grips sucked, most didn't work. you probably have a set of those.
