Default dressing up plastic belt guard and axel nuts

I've an 09 SG. Just added HogPro 6-packs (wheels; picture to come) and am staring at the ugly plastic belt guard and axel assemblies.

Going to paint the guard tins color (vivid black). Likely use rattle can, but I am having a new dash painted by a shop and I may have them do the guard. Anyone have experience painting the belt guard? I've determined that it's easy to sand the roughness out. In fact, the plastic seems a lot like the plastic used on the inner fairing (that I painted last year).

Anyone know what's the coating on the axel nuts? Zinc? I can buff to a remarkable shine, but will it last? Also, my front assembly has been marred by set screws from now-discarded axel not covers. (I am swearing off all cosmestic add-ons that add weight and/or trap mosture.)

Cheers

speaking of moistire, some belt guards can trap moisture in the swingarm- there was a service bulletin about drilling a weep hole in the belt guard.

or just take it off.

I have run my FXR for over 20 years and 50,000 miles with no belt guard

( I did the overdrive 61T softail rear pulley in 1992, so had to remove the guard- no replacement was available.

Thanks. Anyone know about the bulletin? Applicable to an 09 SG?
Maybe I should dump the ugly guard. Any good reason not to?

I thought about going with the chrome belt guard but have held off since I plan to pick up a pair of stretched bags in the near future.
