My kickstand spring came off. Is there a trick on putting it back on?

 

If you have a jack, nows the time to use it.

Get the bike on the jack and remove the top bolt and plate from the kickstand and remove the kickstand. Then attach the spring, and reinstall the kickstand. It still takes a bit of finagling, but not nearly as hard as trying to get it back on otherwise.

 

Easiest, remove the nut holding the arm, pull out arm attach the spring, put arm back on. Replace nut.
Pay attention to the position of the locking piece under the nut to make sure that you put it back in same position. Some people can grab the spring with a pliers and hook it, I'm not so lucky.

 

Good suggestions before me .. or, if you have an old pair of brake return spring pliers ( automotive tools ) they will do the trick in a heartbeat.

 

Been through this a couple times so what I recommend is getting a heavy duty spring ordered by a company Sorgys. Search ebay for heavy duty kickstand spring. I found it easiest to remove the kickstand from the frame of the bike. Then just put the spring on the jiffy and reinstall. Pretty simple and beats the heck out of trying to stretch the spring. When your heavy duty spring arrives install it and throw the old one in your saddlebag as you may need it again. Don't ask me how I know....

I have found that if you put the bike up on a jack, remove the 11/16 nut and stop plate, rotate the kickstand forward, remove and re-install the old/new spring (it will fit loose at this point) and rotate the kickstand to the center position, re-install everything as removed.

My spring broke as I was getting ready to leave a store. I had a shoe lace wrapped around my tool pack so I was able to use that. I first dropped the end of the shoe lace down between the primary and the tranny then tied it to the jiffystand. When I got on the bike and ready to go, I pulled the shoe lace up to retract the jiffystand then tied it around the horn. That held until I got home.
When ya get ready to remove the jiffystand, put the bike up on a lift or front wheel chock or else it will fall over on ya if ya remove the jiffystand top bolt.

 

When you put the new spring on, keep the old streched one in your bike cuz there easy to put back on when the new one brakes and it will. The streched one will hold up the stand untill you get home.

Their was someone on here that said they stuck a penny in between each spring coil, enough to get it on. Apparently works pretty slick.
