Default Oil in Air Filter

I saw oil on my right saddlebag. I then saw oil under the air filter and some oil inside the air filter cover. Anybody have any ideas on what is causing this. Thanks

Breather blow by, very common thing on these bikes. Tons of ideas and ways to work around this issue. Search for breather blow by and you will have lots of reading this summer. I put a feminine pad in the bottom of my air cleaner cover to absorb the blow by. Works great.

I stopped lugging my whip (under 2k) and I dont have that problem anymore - okay so maybe a scant residue of a trickle but that's about it.

Btw - I saw an episode of how it's made and they previewed the moco assy line and before they cold fire the bikes they fill will oil via the breather bolts. So oil easily can be thrown out the breather bolts.

To much oil in the crankcase run your oil level about 1/2 way on the dipstick that should solve it.

I have been watching this for a long time now. Lots of people have a problem with oil puking from the air cleaner. There seems to be two common denominators with the people who complain. One is when there is too much oil in the crankcase. How does this happen? Well, one way for it to happen is when you drain your oil from your crankcase you don't get out a full 4 quarts. Then when you fill it back up with fresh oil you pour in a full 4 quarts. That 4 quarts plus the amount that did not drain out previously amounts to too much oil. Then, when you are out on the highway and the temperature is 90 degrees and you are cruising at 70 mph, the oil swells up and pukes out the avenue of least resistance, the air cleaner. So how to you mitigate this? Easy, pour in 3 quarts of fresh oil and then check the dipstick. Add oil until it is up to the full mark...no more.
The other common denominator that I see is for those that use a non Harley add-on high volume air cleaner. Not all of them work like they are supposed to. Some do, some don't. I am sure there are plenty of folks out there who have their own anecdotal evidence to either confirm or deny my suspicions.

Lower the oil level in the crankcase.

My Softail had a lot of blow back after I removed the stock AC. Tried the screaming eagle, and big sucker and both had the blow by. Put the stock a/c back on and stopped having problems. I was told it was very common also, and tried several different things before going back to the stock filter. It is possible that I also had some high oil levels that contributed also, so wouldn't say it was the only thing, but can say what worked to make the problem go away.

I second the stick on panty liner in the bottom of the air cleaner cover.

My GF was not impressed ha ha.

Also be careful not to over fill oil.
