Default Special Spark Plug wrench/socket for HD plugs??? WTF???

Anybody know where you can get a basic socket for HD plugs???

A standard 5/8" spark plug socket doesn't fit triple platinum plugs - too small.

Whatsize are these plugs - 11/16th's, 21/32nd's, 41/64th's??? Don't tell me you need to buy a OEM socket from Harley for $39.95???

I don't like that cheap a$$ one the comes in the OEM toolkit - looking for something I can use with my ratchets - Craftsman quality.

THANKS.

Dave H.

I believe it is a metric sizing.
Some cars are using them now too.
Ge a good set of metric wrenches 14,15,16,17
I forget which one it is but I believe 15.
My kit is down at the shop about 30 miles away.
I'm on layoff so won't be at the shop for a few days.
Yep they just can't leave well enough alone!

My ride has Plats in it so I just had to go out and investigate this issue. First off, my standard 5/8 sparkplug socket fits just great. It just had to be aligned correctly. Then I read the part# of the plug which is 6R12PP, which isn't a triple, just a double platinum plug. It's really hard to imagine that they would build a plug for a Harley with an oddball size. Keep us posted.

I've got a craftsman 5/8 spark plugsocket that has an external hex on the drive end so you can use a wrench on it in tight quarters.5/8 and 16mm are the same size socket. Not sure about platinums since I use the 6r12s.

I only use quad-platinum plugs in my bike. Sorry, can't help with a socket size for an inferior plug

So then, its nice to know I am not losing my mind [8D]

Regular plugs = 5/8" double platinum = 5/8" gold = 5/8"

Triple Platinum = it ain't 5/8"!!!! They did something funky. Why would Harley go metric on these?

Measured it up = more like between 5/8" and 11/16" - maybe 17 or 18mm??? Weird.

Googled it and found the answer on another forum: http://www.cyclespot.com/forums/arch...php/t-535.html

11/16".

So now the challenge is to find a deep well 11/16" socket!!! Great.

Harley didn't go metric, they purchase these plugs from NGK!

StdHD plug is 5/8 Champion plug
HD SE plugsare 11/16 SplitFire Plugs
Most NGK plugs are 17mm

You can just use a standard or metricdeep socket.

That's not the only thing on your bike that is metric. About 30% of it is made elsewhere.
