Default 600+ mile ride on Saturday to NC mountains

My wife and I (2 bikes) left Fayetteville, NC @ 7:30, took 74 to charlotte and 9 to lake Lure. Then rode 74A through Chimney Rock and Bat Cave to the Blue Ridge Parkway @ Asheville.

Rode north on the BRP, went up Mt. Mitchell and then attempted to ride 226A (Diamondback) @ Little Switzerland. I say attempted to ride because 226A is now covered in the thickest, slickest tar snakes I have ever seen. That road is ruined. My bike was wiggling and wobbling all over the place

From Little Switzerland we continued on the BRP ( about 130 miles) past Blowing Rock and got on 421 and headed back to Fayetteville.

All total 618 miles. Total time was 15:32, GPS showed 11:28 moving time.

Sunday we did a little 200+ miler on local roads...

nice ride you couldn't of picked a prettier weekend for it either. We were up in Boone @ the Boone Bike Rally ourselves.

The next time you're up that way, try NC Route 80 (AKA Devil's Whip). I like it allot better than 226 and rode it Saturday myself. It's allot of fun, very scenic and in great shape! Saturday was an awesome day for riding!

My daughter just moved to Asheville so I have a reason to ride that area now.
Sounds like you had a great ride.

Try the Parkway from Asheville to Cherokee the next time your up this way. In my opinion its the best part of the parkway in NC. I rode Saturday through Highlands and Cashiers. Awesome ride on a perfect day.

Wife and I road from Tennessee to Highlands, NC Saturday. We saw you in the lane closure on Hwy 28. Came home via Deals Gap and The dragon. It was a good 300 mile day.
