Default First Service Drain Plug Magnets Photo

Just did the first service myself on my 2013 Ultra, the condition of the oils in all 3 holes looked as if it had never seen a mile yet and the only drain plug magnet that had a little fuzz on it was the primary one. It is just what you would want to see on your first service, it tells me that the engine was very clean when assembled and all parts are mating and breaking in well. This is good information that you can't get taking your bike into a dealer for service because you will never know what was sticking to your drain plug magnets! Well maybe your better off not knowing in some cases. My plan is to keep it on Harley oils and filters and change the engine oil every 3000 miles and the trans and primary every 6000 miles. Still reading and trying to decide on synthetic but I'm leaning towards good old HD 360 20W50 right now. The drain plug at the top of the photo is the transmission, clockwise from there is the engine oil plug and then the primary drain plug.

Mine was very clean as well. When I drained the oil, I let it settle in a clean container just for further review. I was very happy with as it all seemed to very clean. Filled it back up with Amsoil.

Any name brand oil will work!

Take a look over at this place for oil questions: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...s.php?ubb=cfrm

Just remember that amsoil is untested and over priced. I have yet to hear about an engine that went **** up because of oil in the last 25 years.

Have to give you partial credit on that answer. They do have it tested....by themselves:-)

I myself am a LUCAS oil fan.

but like said before. as long as you use the right grade and weight of oil and change it on time it doesn't matter what brand you use.

oh BTW I get the LUCAS 20w-50 V-twin syn oil for $4.99qt from my supplier. that plus I like their other products is why I use it.

Why not follow the service manual recommendations for oil change intervals and other inspections and adjustments. That's what it's there for.

Because the service manual was written my H-D attorneys. Oil testing has show that the H-D manual is wrong.
