Default XM Radio Gets lousy Recetion

I just installed a Zumo 665 GPS with XM Radio. Everything works great except the XM reception keeps going in and out...all the time!! The GXM 40 antenna was installed inside the fairing. Is there any suggestions on how I can improve my reception? Do I need a new anttenna? If so, what has worked for you?

Mine sucks too, I was told to move the antennae and mount somewhere on the outside of the fairing somewhere. I turned it on last summer for a road trip and every time I got on the north side of a hill or mountain I lost reception so I cancelled the subscription when I got back.

I don't own a Zumo, but my portable XM radio was getting poor reception. I'd installed the antenna under the fairing...but when I headed in a direction just a few degrees off of true north, it would cut out.

Figured something was masking the signal. Removed fairing cover, and it was apparent to me that the antenna would indeed be masked by the radio, and that it would not have anything like a clear shot to the southern horizon, which these radios almost require.

Moved it higher. No more problems. Good luck. Can't imagine the Zumo would be THAT different...but who knows?

Zumo 665 with a fairing mounted antenna and I never really have a problem... there are a few spots I lose it but they are the same spots I lose it in my truck... so who knows

I mounted the xm antenna on the right inner fairing on my bike and the reception improved 10 fold. It cuts out every once in a while, but nothing like it did when the antenna was inside the fairing.

I have the ZUMO mounted on my fairing with the antenna inside the fairing on top of my radio. I also had crappy reception. I ended up using this-

I don't know what mount your using, but if you have either of the HD mounts (fairing or handlebars) the RAM mount is pre drilled to the same holes as the Garmin mounts, and can be placed directly behind the mount using the existing screws, and allows you to mount the antenna right above the unit, out in the open and it works wonderfully.

Here is the RAM mount product page:

Here it is for under $6:
