Default new dunlop 402 on back but not front

I need to replace my front tire as it appears to be 12 years old, plenty of tread though. Any reason why I need to stay with dunlop 402 for the front. I have seen some of the posts and it seems michelin commander II or Metzler888 get good results with plenty of bashing the dunlop 402's.

I went to the Metzler on the rear and had the Dunlop on the front for about 8000 miles. Everyone said I would be happier with matched tires, but it didn't bother me. Didn't get any better mileage out of the Metzler, so I ended up going back to the Dunlops, because I got a deal the next time around.

You have a 12 year old tire with lots of tread, but you think it sucks? I stick with Dunlop 402s.

No I dont think dunlop sucks... I have no opinion thats why I participate in this forum. I am however the kinda guy who is willing to upgrade from original if it means a better machine and I also am the guy who will change things out "while I am there", same reason I choose to replace the front bearing while I have the wheel off. I was just referring to the posts of other tire users who have opinions and I am always open to more. The same reasoning most people replace the cam bearings with the better than the ones moco used to build the bike and the same reason to upgrade the cam chain tensioners. Again I have no opinion on tire manufacture

Brother, I could not agree more. Finding out my front tire was 12 years old, I just purchased the bike from a neighbor, kinda slows me down from taking it out. I may be over reacting, but seems like a ticking time bomb.
