Sweet bike....Just learned bout the IDS issue. Did you correct it?

Can you change the rear pads without removing the tire?

Once I replaced all the cam bearings, cam tensioner and the cam with the upgrade, my '99 has been a no-hassle strong running bike. Love it!

I wouldn't hesitate to get a '99-'02 carb RK at all. Those years have the good lower end on the motors. You just have to fix all the stuff I mentioned above.

It is also going to get you the closest thing to a "potato potato" sound you can get with a Twin Cam. My friends are very jeleous of that part.

I opted for an '07 FLHP to get the 103 cu in and oil cooler. Makes for a great low buck starting point to modify.

If its not in your budget to stay 09 and newer for the benefits of the new frame, 103, ABS ect then 04 and 05 are good years for a solid bike but keep in mind that you will probably need to do cam tensioners, a good way to go is the SE Hyd Kit and at the same time add a cam swap to wake up that 88, if possible add 95 kit and your good to go with solid power = to the newer 103s in stage 1 form.

I had a 04 Road King Custom and it was a nice riding and running bike.

Good luck with the search and glad your jumping back into a HD

My wife is selling her 2002 Roadking. One of the cleanest, well maintained bikes you'll find.
She bought it brand new and has put every single one of the 51867 miles. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.
$9500

That is one of the few Road Kings that looks good with blackwall tires. Nice bike.

Beautiful bike and good price. I would just rather get something with low miles as I put 10-12k a year myself.

I am sure if I can wait long enough I could find an 09 for my price point. But if something else gabs me in the meantime I may go for it.
