Default adjustable pushrods with woods lifters

Welp just adjusted my fm adjustable pushrods 28 flats or to .145. Hope it's not too much but after a couple hundred miles on the new lifters adjusted to .135 it seemed I was getting quite a bit of tapping from my tappets. One seemed a little tight after the adjustment but still spunin its cups. I suppose if it didn't that wild have told me it was too tight.

Ive read where some are running the lifters 1/2 turn from the bottom, I dont have the expertise to agree or disagree but if every other component is buttoned up and shimmed correctly I would research the benefits or counter benefits of doing so remembering whats at risk.

I am having a hard time understanding this thread.
If for example the lifters have .200 inches of hydraulic travel, and one adjusts the pushrods to compress them .145 inches, there is still .055 inches of hydraulic travel left within the lifter to allow for thermal expansion of components and wear.

As long as they are not bottomed out or >.200, or too loose such that the pushrod is not taking up all the slack, how can making small adjustments make any difference to the noise or performance of the motor?

Am I missing something?

Please explain.

I can't give you an engineering explanation for it, but I know I adjusted the SE tapered pushrods when I install the Gatermans lifters to 2 1/2 turns. Yesterday evening I re-adjusted them to 3 full turns and they are much quieter. The engine is back to making a sewing machine sound. I have found that when I install new lifters it seems to take some time before they get fully infused with oil, even if I soak them over night or inject them with an oil can. At the follow up adjustment there is much more resistance when the pushrod contacts the lifter. I also found the Gatermans took longer to bleed down than stock or other brands I had used.

I was getting ticking from 2000-2800 on the front cylinder and readjusted the woods lifters and fuel moto pushrods to .150 preload or 4 turns 5 flats. Noise gone and runs like a beast.

Did you see my thread on adjusting FM push rods? Mine were a bitch to adjust - well I should say the hardest part was getting the intake tubes up enough to get the support chuck in.
