Default Primary Noise during shut down

OK, hope someone has some ideas here.

First some info on the bike
107 build ~3K miles, MCR's, SE Comp put in ~20K ago when the IPB was replaced. Hayden M6 tensioner put in at time of 107 build.
First, when starting the bike it starts clean with no clunk or any noise from the primary, start up is fine.

It's when shutting the bike off I heard some noise this last Sat. Ran up real quick for some gas since we were headed over to the Philly area later that afternoon, I get to the gas station, only a 10 min. ride, when I shut it down it sounded like the primary chain rolling against the primary cover, or maybe like marbles rolling around.

First thought is the Compensator. Head home shut the bike off, same noise. Against my better judgement, say screw it and head over to the sons house near Philly, 2 hour ride. Get there and shut the bike down, not a single noise. Sounds fine. On the ride home stopped for gas and again no noise what so ever. Get home and again shuts down fine with no noise.

Well, figured best to pull the primary cover off anyways and check the Comp bolt. Start it up to pull down to the work garage in back, get it down there and shut it off expecting this sound again and nothing.

Pulled the primary plug, just a little gray dusting on the plug, nothing out of the ordinary and I expected a little something from the seating of the new tensioner. Open the primary and here are the pics.

From reading all the Compensator threads it seems to be that, but what is confusing it that is seems to be OK now. Is there a good way to look at the SE comp to see if it is going? What should I be looking for?

Good question. I'll sit back and wait. Curious myself as I'm going to yank the cover in the fall to replace the stock tensioner with the Baker.

When you pull it aprt and the splines look like this you know you have an issue. This was from my 09 Road King with 57k miles.

What causes that kind of damage in 57k miles?

Welcome, it's the only way I know to check it maybe someone can come up with a suggestion on checking it without removing it.

Can't really complain to much most bike don't ever see 57,000 miles. But I guess the design could be better?
