Default NC dealer won't service my 120R?

So I just moved back to Fayetteville NC and after getting most of my unpacking done decided to go check out Cape Fear HD. While talking to the parts guy about parts for the bike I mentioned I had the Louisiana dealer install my 120R engine and he notified me that the dealership couldn't service or inspect my bike because the engine was for race use only. I asked what about bikes that had S&S 124's and similar engines and he said they were production engines and were in a different category?

Anyone else in NC with a 120R ever had this issue? I thought some cams and even exhaust say for race use only?

I can do my own work on the bike and plan to but still have to get it inspected to re new my plates.

Tell him if you didn't race you would not have installed a 120".
Seriously, do you think you should be talking to a "parts" man about "service"?

Guarantee that Ray Price out of Raleigh will service it ( he has a big race shop in house,) but he's expensive.

sounds like the dealer is covering their rear end.

the "Race Only" stuff is sold just for that and if on a street bike can garner huge penalties for tampering

the owner takes responsibility for knowing and his/her actions

a business can be found in violation if they knowing service or sell race/off road parts for a street bike.

it's been very grey and unenforced- but it is easy to understand a dealer not wanting to take the risk.
the 2010 regs are pretty strict

add to it that the "outside of the box" motorcycle may be beyond the scope of their techs...some dealers won't even look at evos

No, I was at the parts desk and the owner over heard us talking and was telling me there policy. The reason I was asking the parts guy was because I was wanting some of the spark plug fin covers and the ones I had on my stock engine didn't fit on my 120R. When I asked the parts guy if they had any separate parts for that engine he said no and he had never even seen a 120R. That's when the owner piped in.

I was surprised because they sold and installed a lot of non Harley parts like power commanders and V&H exhausts. Just figured if they could remove a catalytic converter from a bike and stick on an after market one they wouldn't be worried about inspecting a bike with a Harley engine, race or not.

I will be doing all my own work so getting an import shop to inspect it is a great idea.

My 124 passes emissions guidelines, I had a 120R on order when mother Harley Decided that and dealer that installed a 120R was responsible for the legal actions that occurred from the EPA. My dealer would build me one but wouldn't swing in a crate. just due to the Vin on the block. Your Certificate Of Origin for your motor really screws you, cause I bet it says "offroad use only"
