Default More then a chatter.... 103 S.E. Stage IV lifters

S.E. 103 Race Stage IV Dealer installed made it 14,200 mi. (about 12,000) on the 103 upgrade. Exhaust lifter tore up cam. Had rocker noise for miles... since 5 or 6k,but seems like most do. But last week it became more then chatter. Had it apart today and rear cam exhaust lobe and lifter had so major wear on them, and the others lobes had more then normal wear for the miles they had. Also noticed the screamin eagle push rods are .30+ and idea why that is ? I am putting New but the same S.E. 260 cams back in, and this time with adjustable pushrods and new cam bearing. Just wondering where the best place to buy the cams, lifters and pushrods ?? and has anyone else had similar failure like this ??

My brother had a the needle bearings in a lifter let go that ended up pretty much munching his 103 conversion on a 2005 Road Glide. The lifters were HD but actually were made by Jims at the time. It started with a loud lifter knock but we were on the road at the time and he elected to continue till we got home. When I tore into it, the roller had been bouncing around and tore up the cam and the needle bearings had turned to powder and went through the whole engine. Only thing that was saved were the heads and cases.

There was a video going around for a while showing how much slop was in the new Harley C lifter roller. Can't find it now for some reason. Could be what happened to your motor.

I had one (C lifter) bleeding down after just sittin for 10-15 minutes. Rode with it like that till I learned confidently enough to do a complete lifter/Push rod swap using Comp Cams lifters and SE tappered adjustables. No harm done from what I could see or at least the oem lifters came out in one piece.

500-700 if you do it yourself. 1000-1200 if you farm it out

hot shots motorworks Google them. They sell the Gaterman lifters and their price is around 160.00. These lifters are designed specifically for HD engines. Do some research on them. I'll soon be replacing my ''c'' lifters with the Gatermans.

+1 on the Gatermans. I've been running them for over 4000 miles. I would recommend tapered pushrods with a higher lift cam and go an extra half turn. Should he fairly quiet with that setup.

I've seen several recommendations to change lifters every 20k miles, anyone following that?
