Default Need help with stator and regulator

Installed new regulator and stator. Started bike took voltage reading across the battery. read about 14.4 or so at about 3600 rpm. Took bike out for a ride and after about 15 or 20 minutes voltage gauge on bike dropped to about 10 volts. Took bike back and read across battery again with volt meter and only read 11.2 volts at about 3600 rpm. I did put a test light to the regulator. With one lead on the negative battery terminal and one on one side of regulator plug the light did come on. But only did it with one side of the regulator plug. Haven't had a chance to check output on stator yet. Any suggestions?

The regulator has failed and is showing battery power bleeding back. May as well check your other components just to be safe, stator for output or shorting. I see you just installed a new reg, now this is strange.

Go to the DIY Electrical section, where there are a couple of stickys to help you diagnose the problem with your charging system. It will help you identify the culprit.

I installed the regulator first and then discovered the stator was bad as well. Could the bad stator caused the new regulator to fail again as well? Thanks again for the advice.

Yep, when one goes it can sometimes take out the other, etc.
