Default Problem installing Idle Cable on 2001 Road King

I just did a handlebar change out on my 2001 Road King. I installed a new Barnett's stainless braided idle and throttle cable. The new idle cable has a spring on the end that appears to sit in the cable guide. I cannot get the cable to sit down in the guide with the spring on. Without the spring, the cable will sit in the guide. My original cable did not have a spring. Is this spring needed? It's fuel injected. Help please so that I can ride!

yes you need the spring, make sure that the adjuster is all the way in, and the cable is all the way seated at the switch if it has one, it will work.
