Default XM Antenna Location ??

Waiting on the harness to come in to do my XM install. I've read a lot of post about poor reception with antenna in fairing. I have the left hand mount I can use, but want to use the best location. Where have you that have done the install found to be the best location ?? This will be on a 13 SG.....

Mine worked fine in the fairing on the highway or roads without ANY tree cover. I emphasize any because the slightest bit would disrupt the signal. I decided to move it here........works much better. Doesn't interfere with the bags. I also suppose if you don't have bags just mount it on the dash. Let me know how you make out.

Inside the fairing works ok if you use a different antenna. Find one of the outdoor xm home antennas, has a larger surface area. You will have to remive the pink plastic around the antenna connection of tbe xm module. They try to make the antenna connection proprietary, but alll the antenna connections are the same.

Default XM antenna

Anyone that would suggest there is a better location than under the fairing is delusional. I haven't heard any problems with the antenna there.

on my 06, I had it in the fairing and I lost signal going due east. I solved it by extending the antenna wire and mounting it on the inside of the windshield bags. It fit nicely in between the center and left back and was basically invisible unless you were looking for it. 100% signal coverage from then on.

I have the stock XM radio on my 07 Street Glide and my reception has been fantastic. I ride in the NC mountains often and the reception is always great. Better than the one in my car.
