Question on upgrading Harmon Kardon Radio to XM
Has anyone replaced their stock Harmon Kardon radio with the Harmon Kardon Satellite radio head unit?
I have a 2011 Limited and would like to add satellite radio in the simplest way possible to my bike that will work flawlessly using the Bike's handlebar controls and integrates with my helmet headset and CB set up.
I know there are other ways to accomplish this (Garmin 665, Roadtech 665, etc.) but I already have a Zumo 550 that works flawlessly and I have an Ipod mounted on my other handlebar that uses the aux input when I want to listen to my personal music playlists.
Has anyone took this approach to adding satellite radio to their touring bike by just upgrading the stock head unit to the satellite version?
I also might add an amp at the same time to reduce distortion on some music in my J & M headset.

I'm not sure if there is an XM version of the stock head (I could be wrong) but there is an XM module that can be purchased that integrates with the stock radio.

I purchased an XM Onyx radio from Amazon for $50.00. Hooked it up and turned it on and now I have Satellite radio for my monthly fee. Works great thru speakers and controls since it plays thru Aux on the stock radio. It is also removable from the docking station that I mounted on the front of the fairing above the gas gauge.

I installed the XM module on my 07 Ultra. Needed to order a wiring harness. Believe it was about $50 as I wasn't went for the XM only harness.
There is also a small metal bracket the antenna mounts on if you want the antenna inside your fairing that you have to order separately. Mounts on the left hand side (primary)of the bike. Cost about $5-6. That's where I have mine and works pretty well. Other have mounted it in other places.

YES, I did the install on my Street Glide yesterday.I also have an Amp mounted on the radio. For the complete install you will need:
1.Harley XM Module Kit (Comes with module & antenna):76404-06
(The module# in the kit is 7165-06A)
2.Non-Ultra Overlay Harness 70169-06
3.left-hand Antenna Bracket 76456-06
If you plan to get an Amp, you will need a Hawg Wired Dummy Module. This will make a flat surface to mount the amp on top.
Like stated above, hardest part is remove/reinstall fairing. Tucking the harness out of the way is also a hastle...Well worth the trouble...
