Default 2013 Road King Stereo, Lower Fairings, Batwing, etc.

Bought a Road King in June. Already put 7,500mi on it. Wife and I really like riding it. Needed tunes so started tinkering with some stereo gear. I knew that I wanted full range speakers and an amp, but it became clear to me from the start that I would not be able to afford the fancy HD Boom! kits. With 200mi on the bike, I slapped a pair of temporary DWG speakers to the mirror mounts and rode it out to Vegas still wearing the temp tags:

When I got home I installed a Kicker i50.2 iPhone controller. It did not work too well for me. My iPhone constantly gave me error messages saying "Device Not Recognized." Although the sound quality was very good, the built-in amp was underpowered for highway speeds. I ran it for a short while connected to the DWG speakers. During installation:

After reading a bunch of posts on this forum and looking at what must've been 1,000 pictures of various RK/SG/EG, I finally decided I would try some eBay vented lowers with HD CVO speaker pods and HogTunes lids. I painted them myself with HD Candy Orange and DuPont clear coat. Made a DIY amp tray above the battery, relocated the ECM and installed a Rockford Fosgate amp under the seat. I stuffed the holes temporarily with some Pioneer 6.5" and 6x9" that I had laying around my garage:

The weather started getting colder and after deciding I liked the eBay lower fairings, thought I would try my luck with a batwing. Still had paint leftover from the lids and lowers. The thing did sit tilted obnoxiously forward, so had to cut the brackets. Doesn't look OEM, but good enough that I don't mind it and DEFINITELY keeps me warmer on the ride in to work. So far tested down to 37deg with only a leather jacket and some Under Armour:

Next step is to replace the Pioneer speakers with something that can better compliment the Rockford Fosgate amp and also fill the batwing with 4 more speakers and a 2nd RF amp. Looking at Arc, JL, Polk, and even RF. Will post up some pics when I decided. Here's a recent ride the wife and I took:

Very nice work! Question - what used to be where that kicker amp is? I think its where the ABS module would go but since you have a FLHR not an FLHRC that space is open?

Nicely done, I have a road king and went through the search for audio as well, started with two 6x9's in the fairing with an arc mini amp, added two more 6x9's later on in the bags, and switched to a RF amp. Sound was good but on the highway would wash out at higher speeds, I changed out the RF for a JL audio 600 x 4 marine amp. This system rocks, their are other on this site with very nice set ups but for additional power but are having to place amps in tour paks or saddle bags. The reason your going to hear a lot regarding ARC, SS, and RF is the compact size of the amps and the available space in the fairing to install. My fairing is a Dragonfly, I have no gauges, it's an empty hull with a lot of room. You have much more options. something you may wish to consider

Here's the RF and JL side by side

nice work, where did you get your sissy bar from? It looks taller than the average option from HD. I'm looking for a taller option for my wife as she is 5'-8" and wants the support higher up in her back.

thanks...
