Default Warranty question- changing speedo

I am changing my speedo (all gauges) out to a silver face from a SG. I have the HD extended warranty. But I don't think it has any mileage limitations, just years. Is this going to be a potential issue?

When I ordered my speedo at my HD dealer, the parts guy asked for the current mileage on the bike. When the new speedo arrived in a few days, it had the correct mileage set. I took a picture of the odometer on the old speedo and a pic of the odometer on the new speedo to show they matched (just in case I get asked someday).

I understand some speedos can get the current mileage from the bike's ECM, but the speedo I bought didn't have that capability.

So the dealer can set the mileage for a fee?

The dealer can't set the mileage. Harley does it before they send it to the dealer.

the mileage gets set at the factory before they ship the new speedo out to the dealer.

GaugeMods (a forum sponsor) can redo your current gauges and you can save all that drama and probably save a buck or two...may be worth looking into

In my 2013 Parts & Accessory Catalog, Pg. 627 which lists replacement speedometers, there are references that indicate the mileage is transferred from the ECM.

"Mileage reinstatement resides in the vehicle ECM so initial mileage will be uploaded at the time of installation."

"Includes a data transfer cable to easily upload initial mileage at time of installation."

Don't know how big a deal this is or if your dealer would do this for a device purchased elsewhere.

I am curious, I like the new speedo for the 2014 Ultra due to the gear indicator.
Would it be possible to use the 2014 Speedo to my 2011 FLHTK? Someone tried it yet? Thanks for the info.

1: They are a different size and shape for 1 reason. 2: the 2014 baggers runs off the Can-Bus data line. All can-bus gauges marry the bikes they came with and can not be re-sold. All used Can-Bus gauges will be paperweights and are worth less other than parts. The dealer can not do anything to correct it ether.

Harley is putting a stop to used gauges being sold, and mileages being incorrect when purchasing used bikes that have had they're gauges swapped to a lower mileage gauge than what the bike is supposed to be. (Fraud)

All of Harley's line up will soon be on the can-bus data line....sportsters/VRods next year?

2011 and newer dyna's family and 2012 newer Road kings were already on the Can-Bus they're mileage is stored in the ECM's.

with all used Can-Bus gauges the gauge will work for about 35 miles when installed in a different bike and then a error reads in the mileage/LCD that can not be cleared as it is not that bikes gauge.

The dealer ordered the speedo from the HD factory. The factory put the mileage in the speedo and then sent the speedo to the dealer. It took about 3 days from when I placed the order to when I picked up the speedo at the dealer.
