can't give you first hand advice....but heard from some riding buddies that just getting the boom speakers does not make that much of a difference...I am very happy with the stock speakers on my SG Special
I have installed the hidden antenna and it seems to work fine, and it does seem that I am getting less popping and cracking now it is not gone but it does not happen as often.
I listen to iPod about 90% of the time but have never heard a pop. When does the radio pop and does it sound like static? I've read several of these post and wonder if maybe it's a software version.

mine only does it on FM never off my ipod or thumb drive and yes sounds like a static pop.
If all you want to do is add better speakers...get a set (or 2) of Kicker CS674s. Drop in replacement on the 14's (front pods and rear). WAY better than the crappy boom stuff and less than half the price. They are even better if you add an amp later.
I'm going with the J & M amp this winter its cheaper than HD boom and quality wise I'm sure no comparison but I will be hunting for a speaker upgrade I feel the J&M at $390 seems ridiculously expensive.
