Anyone running 12" apes?
Bike currently has Wild1 16" apes. I love em, but anytime I go over 60mph without the windshield on my hips cramp up super bad from the flying squirrel position. I tried a set of beach/knuckle bars, but the position seemed too cramped to me. I'm thinking about trying some 12" or other baby apes.
Appreciate any feedback.

Didn't mention what bike you have. I have 12" on my Road King and it was the best mod I ever made. Love love love that bike. I was skeptical when my mechanic suggested them, but they got my arms up parallel to the road and I was able to pull them back slightly to make up for my short arms.
Have seen many a bike with more than 12" on batwing bikes, and considered them on my SG, but didn't like the idea of being up above the fairing and I didn't want to be reaching up for my bars. My .02 worth . . .

I just put Wild 1's 12 1/2" Chubby Bars on my SG. I LIKE 'em. You can check out pics of different bikes with different bars on their website (pic below is from the site, but that's what they look like on my SG).

Had a set of Khrome Werks 12" on my sporty, they were comfortable, I just wanted something a little different.
Sit on your bike and stand it up. Close your eyes and put your hands out in front of you. Where they fall without thinking is gonna be the most natural, comfortable position for you. Have someone measure the height to the risers and see what you think.

I looked at the pics on Wild1's site and I just don't think the 12s look right on a Road King. Now I'm considering the 14s, but I really don't think 2" will make that much of a difference, but maybe? I may have no choice though, I'm going to be getting a C&C solo soon and with that seat dropping me down and back some, the problem may only be worse. I love how my 16s look, and it handles great and is fine around town.... It's just the freeway stuff and the hip pain that I hate. Maybe I'll try a set of those Kuryakyn flip blades so I can change up my foot position some, that may help with the hip issue.
