Default GPS mounting suggestions????

Bought my step-son a new (to him) car today. Found a Garmin Nuvi 2555LMT GPS unit under the seat. It has no mount or cables. I plugged it in to a power cable I have here at the house. Works great. I have a 2009 Ultra and would like to mount this GPS on the bike. It seems the only place that it will mount and not be in the way or block the dash is where the left pocket is on my windshield bag. Im looking for suggestions on how to go about this. Anyone have this GPS mounted to the dash? Part #s? Where to purchase? Pics? Where and how to run the power cable and where to hook it?

Thanks.

There are so many options, it is hard to even begin listing them all.
Do a search here for "GPS" and you'll have lots of options to consider.

There is one or two threads on the subject, happy reading. A quick search brought up 11 pages with 25 threads on each page. Just to get you started! I don't have your particular GPS so sorry I couldn't help more, congrats on scoring the kind of free gps.

I have that unit & i have used it several times on my Road kIng with windshield.
It is a good unit, it has a large display and it will function with a usb converter plug and cable. You will not get the traffic information since you do not have the "special" cable.
The volume can be set at about 90% and will be audible with a full face helmet up to to about 45-50 mph. The top bar information is all i look at when riding "tells you next turn".
Just so you are clear the unit will not accept routes as we understand them from mapquest, HD ride planner etc. regardless of what the website or box states. The unit will accept a pre-planned route but it will recalculate your pre-planned route thus changing it. You need to plant "way points" on your COMPUTER along the way when creating maps in order to twist the arm of the unit from changing your route. Each route will allow a maximum of something like 20 way points. Basically you end up dividing trips into segments and saving them in that manner. Make sure to activate "avoid" unpaved roads.
As to the holder, it depends on your funds rain/no rain:
I went cheap and got ARKON 5-Inch Water-Resistant Case for GPS for something like $20 delivered about 2 years ago.
The thing is good for Rain based on price point, not excellent but good. The unit never got soaked and at most a little mist entered the case...I was riding the Blue Ridge Parkway last summer as it poured for hour after hour after hour and the unit got at most a little misty..the water-resistant case window DID fog-up some during the rain due to warmth of unit, coldness of outside air and tremendous rain.
The weak point was the female ball mount system on the case, not the handlebars. The female ball mount on the case was a loose fit on the ball mount and i had to use a zip tie in order to secure it. I like the case but i dislike the female ball mount.
I have used it several times on multi-day trips as/is.
Whatever system you use make sure to add a fail safe system, a strap, wire, cord or something so it does not bounce off the bike.

Thanks for the replies guys. After reading through the links last night I went out and sat on the bike with GPS in hand. Moved it around to the various locations shown. I think since I don't plan to have the unit on the bike all the time that Ill go with the set up that RollaMo posted. Seems simple and cheap.

Once again let me say Thank You! I love this board!

I thought I would take mine off more than I would leave it on but it never comes off unless I'm going into a store. It's nice having the correct speed right in front of me, the bike is a few miles off.
