Default can this be fixed?

I recently bought an inner fairing off of ebay. when it arrived the plastic at the middle windshield bolt was cracked and the brass insert was gone. I have some of the replacement brass inserts i bought a while ago so im fine there. My question is with the cracked plastic and if it can be repaired? I picked up some jb weld in hopes it can be fixed. I'll try to post a pic but I'm on my phone.

How about fiberglass resin? Or a body filler?

You could have a body shop plastic weld your insert in. I have used one, the nitogen ones work the best.

The fairing is mostly ABS plastic and a few other compunds mixed in. I have used yellow abs glue. It will soften the plastic to the point where you can put in a new insert and mold the plastic back into shape.

I would be pissed if the seller didn't reveal the damage prior to sale.

yeah the bad part is that I specifically asked if the mounting holes were in good shape. He told me that they were. I have opened a dispute with eBay but I still want the fairing so if it can be fixed I will keep it.

Was a thread a while back by a guy that rebuilt a wrecked Harley with a damaged batwing fairing, showed how he did abs plastic repairs on it. Lots of photos. Might be something there that would help. Seems abs glue, like you use on black pcv drain pipe works fine on abs bike parts. You might message him and see what he says about it, seems really knowledgeable on the subject. Has some really good painting instructions, too.

I remember following his build, it was awesome. I'll have to go back and check to see what he did to the inner fairing. Thanks for the reminder!

good stuff. Can be found at most boat dealers and some walmarts... It is very versatile and easy to work with. Comes in black and white..,

I had one in my fairing that looked about like that. I put the screw-in insert in it with plastic epoxy and it didn't hold. Then I tried the JB Weld and it worked perfectly and has held for a few years and still holding. I used several layers and it's probably a lot stronger than it was new.
