Wish I could answer that. I too am looking for a new muffler and don't want to ask the dealership, I'm afraid they will say to flash/tune it. I really don't think slip-ons would necessitate a tune but can see why a full exhaust would.

you Guys have a catalytic converter in your header.

that is a substantial restriction to flow and noise.

you can pretty much do anything you want to the mufflers ( with stock header) and not really effect the overall flow

so retune is probably not required

No retune required when swapping to CVO mufflers in my opinion. The ECU should be able to compensate enough to make up for the small if any flow change between the stock and CVO mufflers.

You don't need a tune. If you look in the Harley parts catalog it doesn't require a tune for slip on mufflers. It does require it if you change the air intake. I bought a set of mufflers on eBay for $149 + $25 shipping that came off a 2013 CVO Ultra Classic with 40 miles on them. They came with the Chrome revolver end caps and heat shields. They are 4" cans verses the stock 3.5". The baffles are longer with twice as any holes as the stock mufflers for less back preasure. They give a deeper stronger tone then the stock mufflers but aren't any louder. They still meet the EPA 80db noise standard. They were actually quiter for about the first 1,000 miles. Can't say if they made a performance differance or not. I changed them out when the bike had about 100 miles. I hadn't got on it yet since I was still breaking it in.

I put CVO slip ons on my 14 street glide for a while . Gutted cat stock headpipe the CVOs were actually quieter than stock slip ons . They look cool but I'd suggest doing the fullsac baffles for a good sound .

Need? No. Benefit? Yes. The single best thing you can do to your bike for performance and rideability is a tune.

Your catalytic converter suppresses noise but is no impediment to flow at stock or Stage 1 power levels. Getting a decent tune will make a bigger difference than losing the converter.

FWIW, the CVO slip ons sound pretty good with a properly tuned 110. I'd assume they'd sound decent with a 103 as well.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've got a 2014 Limited, amber whiskey and black, I think the mufflers off a 14 cvo would look good, chrome with the black tips. If you know of anyone selling, let me know. rayzanotti@sbcglobal.net

Those mufflers will look great with that color combination.

I had the CVO mufflers put on by the dealer, no tune needed... I'm going to ride around like it is for a while before I decide what else to do.
