I have an 08 Ultra bought new with 35000 miles on it. I've always had an issue with a pinging sound around 2400 to 2800 rpms when in hot weather. Sounds like a low octane ping. But since this summer it happens all the time once the engine reaches operating temp no matter what air temp it is....have always run 93 octane and Star Tron......Is this a fueling issue or something else going on inside????
07-08 come ste to run very lean from the factory, lean=heat=ping.i would would strongly recommend a tuner.i never relized how bad my 07 stumbled surged and pinged till i tuned it.
I'm about to open up my buddies road glide. That pinging or clunking noise can be cam belt tensioners going or gone bad. Especially if it's in the lower rpm, but you said its all the time now. It's an easy check
I think you got the only answer you need. The HD download may help but for a little more dough you can get it tuned with a Powervision, TTS or SEPST. The other thing is to keep your RPM's up...2,800 - 3,200 is ideal cruising range.
