My stealer was 'kind' enough to give me a 600 page HD parts/accessory catalog when I picked up my RK. Damn him!!

As a fellow new to big Harley owner (03 RK-1 week today) Enjoy it every chance you get. Riding it, looking at it, thinking about it, talking abou it, shopping for it, spoiling it, pampering it, you get the idea?

Buy parts on-line from Chicago H-D. Usually 20% off from what you'll get from a stealer. Work up a big order though, and save on shipping.
Also, RIDE THE #%&* OUT OF IT>>>>IT AIN"T SUPPOSED TO BE GARAGE CANDY!!!!!
Safety course is an EXCELLENT suggestion, also it'll knock off 10% off of your insurance

Kepp the painted side up, and Congrats!!

They take a long way to stop so stay back and plan ahead.
Do not park nose down hill. You will get a hernia trying to get out of that parking spot.
Buy good boots, helmut, chaps, leather jacket and gloves.
Get good headsets for tunes and intercom if you have a better half. Make it as comfortable for her and taker her along.
Don't stop and drink at a biker bar all day and try to drive home.
Rain is wet and hard to see in.
Gravel and sand will kill your a$$
Bad looking biker MF's are not all killers
HD service is expensive so do it yourself if you can.
This site is addicting
Chrome is addicting
Riding is addicting
Bike rallies are addicting

That is everyting I have learned in 42 years of riding. To late, you are hooked like I am. Ride safe.

Read all the past post on dropping your bike. It happens. Never ever pull the front brake going very very slow (1-10mph) while the front wheel is turn in either directions. Will dump you quick.

I also would like to welcome you, But be warned, About a year ago, like you I bought a new bike and had not rode in many years. 30 to be exact..I would highly recommend to you to take the Riders Edge course at you local dealership. They will teach you things that you will not learn in 5 years of riding as well as making your insurance cheaper.I know you would hate that. My best friend and my Doctor talked me into taking it, best move I,ve made. In the mean time DON,T use the front brake under 10 MPH till you have rode for 6 months. It will get you in trouble. Don,t ask how I know! Ride safe.

Had been almost 30 years since I had ridden. Bought a Metric to see if I still wanted to ride, took the safety course, and 15 months later now have a Softail. Things I have learned:

If it is 45 degrees out, it's a hell of a lot colder on the bike!
Get to know the Service Manager, they are a wealth of information.
Join your local HOG Chapter. I just attended my first meeting and it was great!
Pay attention to your gas mileage...I learned the hard way!
Be prepared when riding down a street and you are getting ready to pass walking or riding teenagers.

have fun and take it slow. You got a great bike. Make sure you take care of it and always ride within your comfort level. Be careful going into corners, i remember when i was younger i headed into a corner and little did i know they had dug up the pavement for some water line and when i hit the gravel the wheel kicked out but luckily the gravel swath wasn't all that wide and the tire caught on the other side. So any ways roads rarely travelled slow down.

You only get one go around so take care and enjoy, goodtimes out there!
