If you ride around town, you won't need them.

If you ride your bike like it was intended, you will need them.

Same reason you have a Queen or King size bed at home instead of a hammock....more room to move around

I didn't see it mentioned but I find the combination of the highway pegs and riders backrest lets me lift up my butt off of the seat from time to time which helps with monkey butt. And the ability to move around is the difference between calling it quits after 500 miles or keeping on past 800+ miles.

To get the most out of a backrest you need highway pegs and to get the most out of your highway pegs you need a backrest.

Well, this is a good topic -- and I have to say that say that most of my bikes have had highway pegs -- but as a general rule I don't use them as I am quite comfortable in my seating position -- on my current bikes, the floorboards give me plenty of room to move. I know that on my longest rides/miles in a day(800 to 1000 or so) -- I don't use them. As for a backrest, I have used them and most of the time I don't -- just one of those things where I am just comfortable

Oh, and I must be a poser, since my Honda 750 had Highway Pegs that said HONDA

I decided which ones to buy with the help of my sales person . I got on my bike and found a comfortable foot position and they helped me figure out which bracket setup would fit around the lowers. Highway pegs were the first addition to my bike along with a drivers backrest.

Fyi I'm 5'7 with a 30 inch inseam and 170 lbs (feels like a personal ad lol)
Thanks. Mike
I'm probably in the minority here but I hardly ever use mine. It is nice to stretch your legs occasionally but on long trips I don't have issues with my legs. It's always my *** that needs relief. I'm always trying to slide my feet farther back on the floor boards to shift the pressure on my tail around a bit. Using the highway pegs just makes things worse by concentrating all my 260 lbs in a very small spot on the seat.
