2014 Limited speedometer issues
I have a 2014 ultra limited with approximately 400 miles on it. While riding after and during a light rain I lost the speedometer for about 15 to 20 miles. It started working again and worked correctly for the next 100 miles or so. Two days later I got caught in the rain again, shortly afterwards the speedometer went out and the self canceling turn signals stopped self canceling. This time the engine shutdown, I turned the ignition off and back on and the bike started right away but would not idle under a 1000 rpm's. Local Harley shop pick up my bike and was able to get the event to happen 1 more time. They had it for 3 weeks and have not been able to reproduce the event. Any thoughts from the folks out there that might now.
Thanks
Steve

next time it happens, take that video camera out of your pocket and record it for them.
you are under warranty- stress that this IS a safety issue.
It is commonly accepted that a vehicle suddenly loosing power is a safety issue and YOU document your complaints to the dealer and don;t be afraid to escalate it.
make them understand this is their problem.
These documents will help your survivors in court ( worst case scenario).
Idle spec is 900~1100 for most twin cams, often higher if the motor is cold.
high(er) idle is better for tail pipe emissions, and also motor cooling. a great part of the cooling is achieved from the motor oil removing heat from the hottest parts of the motor ( pistons, heads, bearings) and carrying that heat away to be dissipated

The speed sensor is an exposed connection. I would check for moisture there and in any other exposed plug between the transmission and speedometer. How tight is the plug on the speed sensor? Any evidence of corrosion just starting either on the sensor or in the contacts in the plug? Sure hope both for you and for the MOCO that this isn't an early indication of lots of trouble coming with the new wiring system in the '14s. Check battery connections for tightness and grounds for clean and tight. After that, you may need to wait for the next wet weather.
