Default 2005 FLHT Electra Glide Standard electrical problem - FAST Help needed

Anyone with suggestions or know what we might check please chime in...

2005 FLH Electra Glide Standard Almost 80 thousand miles!

My good friend is leaving for Daytona in 2 days and his bike just did the following...

He started to ride to work about a week ago and his check engine light was on and the tach gauge was inop. Dealer checked it and found nothing.

Sunday we both rode to work and he had intermittent tach and speedo gauge(s). When we left work he started it up and, with the handlebars full left there were no tach gauge and got the check engine light but when he straightened bars they worked. When he turned left at the light they went out again and returned as he rode.

Today he starts bike and has nothing gauge wise no matter what handlebar orientation was. He says the gauges are active and have power but are not receiving data. No RPM or speed data but sweep test of gauges good. He removes the batwing and sees nothing in any wiring that would indicate broken or chaffed wires.

The only thing he found was a set of 4 pinched wires by his odometer reset button. Those wires are shrink-wrapped so he is cutting that bundle open as I type checking these.

The dealer is closed due to our snow and ice here and his regular mechanic is out to lunch...

Has this going on now... security light on, check engine light on, speedo no work, tach no work....

Codes are... U1255 (on speedo I think) and U1016 (on tach I think)

We are getting freaked out by this and even with the manual and our extensive nerve (i.e.: mechanical ability to lift 12 oz.) we are coming up empty....

U1255 is Serial Dara Error/Missing Message an (EFI)
U1016 is Loss of ICM/ECM Serial Data (Instruments)
What ever the hell that means. Sounds like ECM issues.

Consider review of connectors at the ECM (both ends) and check for corrosion (clean pins).
Consider review of negative ground cable (both ends).
You have corrosion at a connector, a loose connector someplace or bad ground.
Also consider doing a wiggle test of wires under seat and near fairing neck with the bike running.
Any chance the bike has a power commander ? are the connections clean ?
How is the key switch ? was it removed at some time?

I hate electrical problems. Check all the connections as stated before. Clean and use so dielectric grease. Check and clean negative battery terminal. A lot of things go wrong just from a loose battery connection.

Wiggle test done... No luck. Checking connectors (again!) and fuses for pin corrosion.

No power commander. That dude is enough of a commander! Best ride captain I ever tried to follow.!
Don't know about key switch but I'll tell him to check there..

The tank must come off....

a quick copy paste from a google search:
"The codes you see were cascaded and U1016 is the top priority, next is U1255. probably triggered those....Will the bike run? if so, run it to see if the U codes come back (since you have verified all of the connectors on the main wiring harness) you can also wiggle the harnesses to see if the code will set again.....you will see this if the yellow engine light comes on when you do the wiggle test...concentrate on the serial bus lead the serial bus is the LTGRN/V wire...it is Pin 5 on the ECM, Pin 3 on the TSSM, Pin 11 on the Ign harness and Pin 2 on the speedometer....evidently at some point that wire lost continuity and caused the U1016 code to set.

Since the speedo set U1255, I'd be looking close in that area....was someone messing with the harness or console areas?"

I think you might have a loose wire not feeding the speedo.

We found a couple wires back by the battery where the insulation was rubbed off. Fixed that and he rode all daytona with no issues! Thanks to all for the input!
