It takes 45 to fill back up if you pull the inner and outer covers. Just draining doesn't even get it all. Pull the outside cover and it will leak out lots more.

If you have too much, you might experience a slipping clutch. It's not a huge deal, and if you're worried about it, drain and refill to the correct level. Nice thing about the primary fluid is that it's really easy to deal with.

That's the best way. You only need enough to keep everything wet with with oil as you ride. This is NOT a crucial deal. HD publishes figures for fluid capacities. But that doesn't mean everything needs to be filled to capacity to prevent damage.
