Default Primary Oil Capacity. wet vs. dry

Ok.... at the risk of asking a silly question...

Owners Manual for my 2014 Street Glide states that after I drain my primary, to fill it with 38oz wet or 45 oz dry. (page 148)

How wet will the primary be after I drain the damn thing?
So do I fill er back up with the 38oz or the 48oz?

38oz, 45 is for when you put a new clutch pack in

It takes 45 to fill back up if you pull the inner and outer covers. Just draining doesn't even get it all. Pull the outside cover and it will leak out lots more.

Stop pouring oil in the primary when the oil touches the bottom of the clutch basket. You will probably have to shine a flashlight in there to see really well. If you get a little too much in there (an ounce or two) it won't hurt anything.

And if you get more than an ounce or two? I got mine a little above those clutch wheels. Think it might have been a little much.

You'll void your warranty! J/k.

If you have too much, you might experience a slipping clutch. It's not a huge deal, and if you're worried about it, drain and refill to the correct level. Nice thing about the primary fluid is that it's really easy to deal with.

That's the best way. You only need enough to keep everything wet with with oil as you ride. This is NOT a crucial deal. HD publishes figures for fluid capacities. But that doesn't mean everything needs to be filled to capacity to prevent damage.

If it's raining out use 38 oz, if it's dry and sunny use 45 oz

Derby or inspection cover off = wet. Outer primary cover off = dry.

Turkey baster can remove excess oil. Might have to use a short hose attached to the end...

Wife may disapprove. Please, use with EXTREME caution!
