Default Tubed to Tubeless?

My 2010 UC has tubed laced wheels. They look nice, but I'm not crazy about tubed tires.
On the 2012 and up laced wheels, they are tubeless.
HD shows a part on the 2012 wheels, rim seal kit.

Has anyone done this yet. Buy the kit and convert wheels to tubeless. It's either that or look for some used cast wheels.

The kits are only $30 per wheel. Much less than a couple hundred for newer wheels.

Thanks,
Duff

The only tubeless wire wheels I know of that work well are BMW, which have the spokes installed in the outside edge of the rim, outboard of the beads. They look ugly IMHO but get around the problem of lots of holes inside the tyre. You could try those rim seal kits, or put the cash towards a fresh pair of cast wheels, which is what I would do. If you don't want custom wheels and are prepared to watch the ads on Ebay etc, you can pick up decent secondhand wheels for very little money.

I wouldn't trust spokes without tubes. Tubes have worked forever but if ya got a "thing" about them go cast/forged/spun.

Been there done that..I have fat spokes on now I used to run them tubeless until I had a low tire and I didn't realize it made for a fun ride..it leaked down 30lbs from one night to the next day. It has a tube now and its fine. nothing wrong with running tubes!

Duff, not that simple. I want to do the same on my bike. The tubeless rims are different. Part # 41052-09 (rear) are the tubed spokes. They will not work with that kit. The tubeless rims (different shape) are part # 43566-11 (rear) and are stamped tubeless. I don't think all 2012-13 come with the tubeless rims. Believe they are the Tubeless Chrome Aluminum Profile Laced wheels, a $460 option.

My friend also has a '10 Ultra Classic with wire spokes and he's ordered new Chisel Wheels (like a CVO Ultra) from H-D, along with new the brake rotors, belt pulley, bearings and everything that he needs to convert his bike to tubeless tires.

I ran my 2000 Ultra Classic with wire spokes for 77,000 miles (including a trip to Alaska) and never had a flat tire. I am sure however, that if I had suffered a flat tire, that I would have wished that I had mag wheels and tubeless tires.

Tubes are fine .... Cut a tire all the way through one night but the tube was fine. Ran it like that for 1000 more miles.

Are the tubed chrome aluminum profile laced wheel rims the same as the tubeless version?
