Default Replacement gas cap.... such an easy find and I missed it (almost)

Well as some of you have had happen.... we decided to donate our harley brand touring gas cap to the "lost and found" box at a gas station along one of our trips (of course we don't leave them at a local station, usually one at least one state away).....

well at first I dropped by the local independent shop to see if he had an extra one i could at least borrow. He had one for a loaner for a bit. I stopped by autozone to see if i could find one similar... found a couple that were close, but the actual cap part (top) was to big and the lid wouldn't ever close. I had found a couple on ebay, but was just using the loaner for now (it was off an extra tank for the time being).....

Walking through the redneck gathering ground today (walmart) and passed by the gas cap isle. Had time to kill and thought there was no way "WalMart" of all places would have one that was similar, but why not i'll looK... Second cap i opened up i went holly crap that's the same as the HD cap, it's gotta be!

Stant #10834 Is the same style as the oem harley cap, same thread, and the top of the cap is small where the lid will close! not to mention WAY cheaper ($4.97)... here's a link

Good to know, I usually get a half second panic attack about a mile down the road trying to remember if I put the cap back on. And that's after putting the cap on and then telling myself the cap is on now!....

I have a tank overlay on my SG with a custom cap and keep the stocker in my saddlebag for the "just in case". The custom one has a bolt holding the inwards together, so I super glued an extra strong magnet to it. Remove cap at gas station, attach it to bars with magnet and it stays there until I reinstall it.......

Glad i could pass along the info! I really didn't think WalMart of all places would have something that would fit! Now it doesn't have the factory harley shield of course.... so you may loose some horse power, and maybe some bragging rights... but you can re-buy those with the money you save instead of going to the dealer for a $30-ish gas cap lol!!!

I would find this thread to be pretty funny if I had not just done this three weeks ago .... I purchased two caps with the Bar & Shield for $10 with free shipping off Ebay. Why two? ... well, I think everyone knows ... if it happened once, it could sure happen again. I know how you feel OP.
