Default Auto Tune question, 12mm/18mm bungs..

I have a 2012 Street Glide and so many plans have changed from the beginning of this project and I am confused with the 02 sensors.
Say I start out with a Power Vision, TTS, then want to upgrade to the auto type tuner or starting out with a Thundermax auto tuner from the start.

09 and above have the smaller 12mm holes/sensors but when going to a auto tune or a pro type tuner you need to have the 18mm holes in the head pipe to use 18mm sensors correct?

Do the 18mm stay in the bike from then on while using the auto type tuner?
So basically I need to have a pipe that will have both 12 and 18mm holes drilled in them correct?

Just having a bit of a hard time grasping this..

it all depends on the tuner, T-max uses 18mm, power vision has a basic auto tune mode that uses stock 12mm, or a auto tune pro module that uses 18mm, not sire about tts. A lot off the newer head pipes have both holes in them.

madhunter60 is correct but.. don't fool yourself into thinking the TM is an auto-tune module. there is no such thing as auto-tune. you record data, connect it to a computer, finesse that data, flash it back to the ECM whether it be a stock ECM with a flash tuner or a Thundermax.

I don't have any idea what you are asking??? Aftermarket wide band o2s (never stock) for harleys use a 18mm bung. Narrow band o2s from '07-'09 use a 18mm bung, '10 up use 12mm bungs. Power vision and TTS are flash tuners that can reflash the stock ecm. Both allow logging ("auto tuning"). T max replaces the stock ECM (with older tech) and uses wide band o2s. Dynojet "autotune" units add wide band o2s to the logging feature.
What are ya trying to accomplish????

'09 Touring have 18mm 2-wire unheated sensors. Later years have 12mm 4-wire heated sensors. They must be heated because they are located farther from the heads hot exhaust port than the 18mm. O2 sensors work only when hot. Both are narrow band types that tell the ECU whether the engine is running lean or rich.

.....grasping this..
as OH said, 07~09 headers are 18mm.
bung adapters can be used to use 12mm sensors if required.

the positions of the o2 sensors also changed
07~09 up near the exhaust port, 10+ down near the catalytic converter

and 2010+ use 12mm- 18mm cannot be used easily

aftermarket headers come in both flavors, pick the size you require.

the 18mm would be more flexible

I'm under the impression that to upgrade most of the tuners (that you can upgrade) like the P Vision, Thundermax etc. that the upgrade kit comes with the 18mm sensors now needing to have the 18mm holes in the header pipe...?

Yes, To install 18mm wide band o2 sensors there needs to be 18mm bungs in your header. Dynojet "autotune" kits and tmax come with 18mm wide band o2 sensors.

The Jackpot SS head pipes come with both sizes. More flexibility for you.
