Default Am I the only one not happy with my exhaust?

I change my baffles, it sounds good for a while, then I want to change it again. It just never seems to sound good enough for long enough.
Anyone else have this problem?

I thought that after I converted it to carburetor it would sound better, at least that's what I read on these forums. With all the trouble I had with the MM fuel injection, it seemed like a good idea. Definitely runs better, glad I made the change.

I think it might have a cam, just not sure. Otherwise, stock TC 88. Stage 1 air filter.

Wondering if I should go with a stock header and some slip ons, maybe SE Street Cannons? Definitely want to keep the cost down. Not sure if dual headers are the way to go. Still plan on doing geared cams next year (2001 RK).

BTW, currently running VH Big Shot Duals. With the stock baffles, these sounded a bit raspy.

True Duals will definitely make any muffler sound better.

With a slight decrease in low_end power?

Well, yes, but I doubt you'd notice. It has bigger implications if you intend to punch out your engine, add cams, ported heads and compression. Peak TQ would be somewhat lower and peak would be further to the right on the chart, putting peak out of range of some/many riders compared to a 2-1 or a 2-1-2

Are any dual headers ok? I heard stepped headers are better, but are they worth the extra dough? Any particular dual headers to stay away from?

I dont have experience, but MGX duals are better from a performance perspective. Rineharts may be as well

my opinion on my exhaust changes almost daily. some of it depends on what helmet i wear, the exhaust note can resonate within my helmet.
