See '05Train's link. That's it.
And they probably should. That said, there aren't many motorcycle oil comparo's out there, but to make an "informed" decision, it's better to have some empirical evidence rather than none.
Truth be told, you would probably be fine using any of the 17 oils used in the study!
It's an Amsoil white paper. They win all the studies they fund.

I'm going to save this for the next oil thread. "From the Mobil website"
Question: Using Mobil 1 15W-50 in Harley-DavidsonsSeveral independent tests have shown that Mobil 15W-50 is virtually similar to Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 oil. Since Harleys utilize separate oil supplies for the primary and tranny, is there any valid reason not to use the 15W-50 in a Harley?-- Dave Gartner, Goodyear, AZAnswer: As long as the primary and tranny are separate sumps and there is no concern for clutch performance, then Mobil 1 15W-50 can be used in a Harley.

So, it appears that the Mobil 1 15W-50 is not too shabby, Hausguy!

Generally speaking, if you're paying extra for better oil, all you're doing is saving the next owner some money. I'd say it's incredibly rare (and therefore not cheap insurance) for a bike to fail on its first owner due to the use of cheaper oil.
And, of course, if you aren't the first owner, then you're stuck with however the previous guy treated it anyway, regardless of what oil you use.
I still use the better stuff, but that's because I unreasonably believe that I'm going to keep the bike for hundreds of thousands of miles. I never do, but I keep telling myself I will.

Sorry guys, there are several long blogs in the Oil Tech section of this forum. But to clarify one question. Mobil 1 15W-50 and Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 are two different lubes. The base stock is the same, but the additives are totally different because to loads placed on each oil (air cooled). Just my thoughts.....
