Default NooB question 2014 Road King

Picked up a new FLHR, want to adjust the handlebar for optimum wrist angle/comfort. Thankfully, the plastic cover easily pries off to access the two bolts I need to loosen to roll the bar fore or aft.. I don't wanna mangle up the bolts..they look like hex bolts. Anyone know the size and should I use ball HEX ,
allen, or ? Anything I should look out for?

Thank you.

I avoid using a ball hex,all you'll need is the torque spec or just make them tight.

1/4" allen

a ball drive ( if you look at it) has a very small contact area, and is likely to strip if any torque is applied.

cover your tank with a towel

you need only loosen the 2 rear bolts

make sure you have at least 3/8" clearance from the tank with bars at full lock

also don't forget that the control/mirror location is going to change in comparison to you hands, and that you can't twist them up or down on the bars like in the old days because they are wired internally in the bars ...

Unless I misunderstand the issue, you can loosen the torx bolts on the controls and rotate them to any position you want. I have.

yes and the levers are T27 not T25 like the buttons

as far as the handlebar clamp, they changed from allen to torx or vice versa between 2010 and 2012 - my two bikes were different

I looked again and definitely not torx. 1/4 allen it is.

So the chromed cover with the fork lock in the center just pries off? There's no tab to push in, no hidden bolts, etc? I'm wanting to rotate my '14 FLHR bars forward but I don't want to break something on a brand new bike. Where is a good place to pry it off without scratching the upper fork covers?

And what is the torque spec on those rear clamp bolts?

I guess it's time to order a service manual. Thanks in advance.
