Default ***More info on wheel changes for 2014 ABS w/linked braking***

It is still relatively early for these linked brakes but I received some new information from Performance Machine today.

Up until now if you wanted to do a 21" front wheel on a 2014 touring model with ABS and linked brakes you had to do a 17" or 18" rear as well in order to keep the ABS light from coming on and causing potential issues with the brake system.

I have been informed that if you use the Harley branded Dunlop D408F off the softail breakout (130/60/21 part number 43100008) will work with the stock size rear wheel (16x5) with the stock rear tire (180/65/16) and not cause an issue with the linked ABS system.

They also informed me that you can run a 23" front wheel with the Vee rubber 130/50/23 and an 18x5.5 rear wheel with a 180/55/18 tire without issue with the linked ABS brakes. I will continue to update this thread as information comes in on the subject as well alike to know what will and will not work before we buy it.

So, if you want to do a 21" front only have at it and get the Dunlop tire.

Is the Dunlop 130 tire taller or shorter than the 120? Would you as a tire/wheel salesman recommend this setup? Thanks for the updates.

That's progress for ya. I won't buy ANY motorcycle with linked brakes of any sort.

The Dunlop is a shorter sidewall although the tire is wider. The two 21" sizes are 120/70/21 (most everything out there except the Dunlop)or the Dunlop at 130/60/21. The is kind of misleading as the aspect ratio on the sidewall is determined as a percentage of the width of the tire so it is not really an apples to apples comparison.

Bumping this thread for anyone with a 2014 who is thinking of doing different size wheels. If you don't have ABS this does not apply.

Thanks for the tip. I have the 2015 RG and the dealer has been no help.

I talk to a lot of builders and I talked to a guy who put a 26" on a 14 SG with ABS. What he did was eliminate the ABS box entirely and run a brake line direct from the front and rear master cylinders to the calipers. The ABS light stays on when you do this and obviously the linked braking and ABS are no longer present, but this is another way to do this.

Apparently there is not a single fuse that can be pulled to make the ABS light go out like there is on 13 and earlier bikes as a result of the can bus wiring. If going to single disc and plugging one of the abs ports as the lines for the front brakes as they are two separate lines on the 14 and 15 bikes this happens if the two wheels are not within 10% total diameter of each other. I think I am explaining this clearly but it is kind of early here so if you don't understand please ask and I will clarify.
