Default Loosing oil somewhere.....

No leaks, but lately I have been having to add oil pretty regular. It uses about a quart every 2000 to 2500 miles. I have a 2008 Ultra Classic with 47,000 miles. Seems to run great, no smoking, no leaks. I switched to Amsoil 20w50 first oil change after I bought the bike (used) and still change oil every 3000 (habit I guess) because I do a lot of hot weather riding and change the oil as soon as I see any color change. Should I be worried?

Are you doing a lot of high speed interstate riding?

I have a 2013 with 26K miles. When the wife and I hit the interstates, I lose about 1 qt every 1500-2000 miles.

Same with me. Interstate riding I loose about a quart in 2500 miles. Local riding I don't burn anything.

Your not losing it somewhere, your burning it. Either through the vent in the air cleaner or its going by the rings or valve guides. I would be concerned if mine used that much.

Interesting. That would explain why I'm down half a quart after 2500 miles. Wasn't using any at all just riding around town.

perhaps this goes back to the break in period and the rings did not seat well and now there is oil burning. It could also be valve seals

You can do a cylinder leak down test and check the rings for blow by if it's not the rings it the valve guides or seals ide be concerned about a quart of oil every 2000 miles

Some on the longer trips, which is when I notice the most oil usage.

Well, from the sounds of it most are having the same issues as me and it is only on long interstate trips, don't seem to have much of any loss around town. So, not gonna worry to much at this point but may go ahead with a leak down test......
