Default Does a 2012 have the upgraded compensator?

A friend yesterday said he thought it sounded like my compensator was going south. Doesn't sound different to me, but a lot of times it won't if the sound changes slowly.

I thought that the '12s had the updated SE compensator from the factory. Am I wrong?

Thanks

David

Yes & No.....

They have had 3 compensators (2 upgrades) in the last few years... I forget the actually date ranges.... Basically came out with a new compensator and it had problems, upgraded it, but still had a few problems, then upgraded again (2014) and the jury is still out on the last upgrade....

You have the 1st Upgrade (2nd new compensator)......

Clear as mud?

i have a '12 EGC and the compensator was replaced in march of '13 with the upgraded version. there is now a newer version where some tab is glued on to help sling oil where it is needed. should be trying one of those in the next month or two, judging from the sounds coming from bike.

Mine did not. It now has the lastest SE version in it since about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I didn't realize how much noise it was making until it was changed out.

Well, damn....I'm leaving in 3 days for a 3,000+ mile ride. I suppose it'll hold together. Actually, it's not making noise starting. I KNOW what that noise sounds like. There's a clunk on shutdown though.

The newest version compensator is supposed to be the strongest but since it has more parts, it seems to be a bit noisy sometimes. I noticed that on my '14 versus my '13 when I ride them. Particularly at idle when hot.

i thought the 10,11,12 and 13 had the same newer style comps.? the 14 being the newest. was there some running changes made to the 10 thru 13 comps.?

Yes, they upgraded the original SE version to an "A" revision and then altogether changed in 14.

When warm and starting the bike, it made a racket.
Embarrassing!
You can go on Youtube and find examples.
