Default how is the starter clutch removed??

The starter clutch must be shot on my starter. The starter just wrrrrs when I hit the button. Took the starter off and pulled it apart. Does the starter clutch have to be pressed out?? Bike is a 2000 Roadie.

I did a replacement on a 2006 Ultra and if I remember correctly it should slide out without the use of a puller.
