Default Compensating sprockets, painted fairings and such

Well I finally had so much engine noise I had to pull the primary cover to see what was up. I have a 2010 FLHX, and the knocking sound was the frequent fail compensator sprocket. I called to order the part and the local dealer said it was a poor design and had been a lot of trouble, so it is now going obsolete and I should buy the Screaming Eagle upgrade.
"How much?", I ask.
He says, "$299, and since it won't fit with your current stator rotor, so you have to buy one a them too. Another $108".
I asked "How much was the old part", and he said "$50".
So I said "You mean to tell me that you recommend an upgrade that equals eight original replacements for a part that has failed so much you had to obsolete it? You oughta had a recall on the damn thing anyhow---you should be paying me to fix it".
So I found a dealer who got the OEM parts and bought two sprockets and cams. I figure if I get 25 to 35,000 miles out of each of them, I'll buy another bike by then anyhow, and just hope for the best for my long-suffering starter motor....(BTW..a tech at a large dealership told me that a lot of the SE upgrades have failed too..seems to be a design flaw)
I also had my inner fairing painted...takes a while to disassemble, but not difficult. I think it looks good on the red bike.

I got in when it was about $230. The newest ones have the plastic "funnel" which I guess is a $50 upgrade with glue.
I've been wondering why Harley didn't cast a "funnel" into the primary cover.

The 2014 models do have the funnel cast in the primary cover.

Nice! Harley does it right again. Good things coming for the MoCo.
